About

1st International Workshop on Elastic Networks Design and Optimisation (ELASTICNETS 2016)

May 12-13, 2016
Cartagena, Spain

co-located with ONDM2016 (http://ondm2016.upct.es/)

KEYNOTE SPEECH
  • Leonid Kazovsky, Stanford University :  "Enabling Technologies for Next-Generation Flexible Access Networks"

Scope of the workshop:
Two main phenomena are driving the way the network of the future is being re-engineered: the continuous trend towards a network-based form of computing, like Cloud or Fog Computing, and the trend towards a mobile Internet for People and Things where network dependability is critical. Immersive VR gaming, autonomous driving or augmented reality systems are examples of applications  extremely demanding in terms of latency, resilience and bandwidth which are not viable without a  cost-effective reliable network designed to re-allocate capacity in real time wherever it is needed.  This network evolution from a static to a smart elastic network is envisioned to affect end systems, Fog/Cloud designs, and all the underlying network spanning radio/optical access, metro and transport segments. The purpose of this workshop is to gather international experts to discuss the latest research advances  and trends in smart elastic networks design enabling a hyper-connected hyper-computing-based world Topics of relevance include but are not limited to:
  • Multi-Technology Elastic Network Planning and Optimisation
  • Mathematical Techniques for network design
  • Elastic Optical Networks (EON): New Technologies, Scheduling and Planning
  • SDN Control Plane Planning and Optimisation
  • Dynamically Reconfigurable Optical Access and Metro Networks
  • Elastic Network Protection and Resilience
IoT, Fog and Cloud Computing Orchestration and Planning
  • Fog Networking
    5G and beyond-5G Backhaul Design
  • Packet and Circuit-switching-based integration of fronthaul and backhaul traffic
HetNets: Small Cell Planning and Optimisation
  • Opportunistic and ad-hoc networking
    Network Orchestration and Management
  • New SDN extensions for Cognitive Elastic Networks
